As we are proceeding to year 2017, there are few new laws in Connecticut, which will take effect in the state from 1 January 2017, list of new laws given below.
According to the new law, certain health insurance policies should cover three dimensional mammograms. Under the existing law, policies have to cover baseline mammograms for women, between 35 to 39 age only and annual mammograms for women who are 40 or older.
Quinnipiac University professor David Cadden said, “if the chances of detecting the tumor is increasing, at the same time people will be exposed to greater level of radiation. It’s going to cost more to have a 3D mammogram and naturally their costs are going to go up and naturally they will pass that on to everyone else.”
Cadden said, “now nurses have the ability to designate whether a person can get out of a health club contract of a disability, just by writing a prescription for health based marijuana.
From January first advanced practice registered nurse can certify patients for medical marijuana.
In the new law, employers will not be allowed to ask about a prospective of employee’s arrest record, criminal charges unless it is required by the state or federal law
Cadden added, “”it is a very big step forward. And I think like everything in life it’s a question of tradeoffs. You might be hiring a convict, but at the other hand, you might exclude a convict from the society. In some cases you need to be bonded if you are in an environment like a bank where you are handling money, in which case you would have to disclose that.”
In an Another change the Connecticut’s minimum wage will be increases to $10.10 an hour. Cadden said, “The most recent studies indicate that there will be an impact among teenagers and people without a high school degree, but that by and large if you raise the minimum wage in a gradual manner it should have no significant impact on employment.”
