The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) concluded their 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season on a disappointing note. Following the match, the IPL Governing Council imposed a significant penalty on the entire CSK squad. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad received a fine of Rs 24 lakh for not adhering to the required over-rate. In an official statement, the IPL revealed that Gaikwad was fined Rs 24 lakh, whereas the other team members faced penalties of Rs 6 lakh each. The official IPL statement indicated: "Ruturaj Gaikwad, Captain of the Chennai Super Kings, has been penalized for maintaining a slow over-rate during Match 66 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. "This being the second violation by his team (the first occurring in Match 18) of the season regarding Article 2.22 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, which addresses minimum over-rate violations, led to Gaikwad being fined INR 24 lakhs. The remaining members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, will incur fines of either INR 6 lakhs or 25 percent of their respective match fees, whichever amount is smaller. " With uncertainty surrounding MS Dhoni's future and several players not demonstrating their capabilities, Chennai may need to implement numerous changes prior to the next season.
